This is the first volume of an excellent series of picture histories that will look back on individual decades of Dutch shipping. Joint English/Dutch text. The 1950 to 1959 edition is impressively illustrated, with historic black-and-white photographs, and this is complemented with detailed captions in both languages. Over one hundred and seventy ships are described, those dating from the early part of the Twentieth Century to the new-built ships that followed the events of World War II. The range of vessels is impressive. Here you will find the likes of the Statendam and Sibajak, as well merchant ships and modest coasters. If the remainder of this series lives up to the very high standard of this edition, which is well written and superbly illustrated, “Dutch Shipping in Focus” will quickly acquire a loyal following. (2006). 128pp. 177 b&w photographs. LBK. 168x240mm. |
